Battle Creek, Mich. - The Alma College men's golf team shot its lowest score of the season, a 324 (+36), in the first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Jamboree on Wednesday (Sept. 12) behind freshman Eli Pinter's (Muskegon, Mich. / Reeths-Puffer) 77 (+5). The Scots sit in seventh place with three more conference jamborees to go.
Senior Kyle Bodkins (Ada, Mich. / Forest Hills Central) shot a 79, the lowest score of his season. Sophomore Tait Morrissey (Canadian Lakes, Mich. / Big Rapids) shot an 81 with senior Bennett Schmitt's (Frankfort, Mich. / Frankfort) 87 and junior Luke Lamoreaux's (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Sterling Heights Stevenson) 92 rounded out Alma's day.
Hope leads the field with a 286 (-2) after the first round. It has a six-stroke lead over second-place Calvin (292, +4). Six strokes also separate second place and sixth place.
Seven players shot under par in the tournament, led by Hope's Josh Gibson (68, -4). Ben Kramer is tied for second with Adrian's Andrew Skibski (69, -3).
- Eli Pinter's 77 is tied for the lowest score this season. Tait Morrissey shot a 77 at the Lou Collins Invitational, the first tournament of the season. It is also the third score in the 70's by a Scot this year.
- Kyle Bodkins had three birdies on the day, the only birdies by any Scot this year.
- Bodkins also shot -1 on the course's four par 5's.
The men's golf team returns to the links on Friday, Sept. 14. It will take part in the Irish Hills Invitational at the Grande Golf Club in Jackson, Mich. Tee time is set for noon.
