Adrian, Mich. - The Alma College men's basketball team defeated Adrian College 83-72 on Saturday (Feb. 1) afternoon for its third straight win.
Five Scots scored in double figures, led by Cole Kleiver (Williamston, Mich. / Williamston) and Jack Poling (Portland, Ore. / Westview), who each scored 18. Poling's total is a new career-high, which he had previously set just one week ago. Brandon Rake (Whitehall, Mich. / Whitehall) had 12 points and 10 rebounds for his third career double-double. Ryan Stevens (Lowell, Mich. / Lowell) had 14 points, nine rebounds and eight assists.
Alma led the entire way and won in traditional fashion - it shot nearly 50 percent from the field and 40 percent from three while holding Adrian to 33 percent shooting. No Bulldog that took more than four shots made more than half of them.
Adrian pulled to within four towards the end of the first half, but the Scots responded with 12-0 run going into halftime to lead 48-32.
After trailing by double digits for most of the second half, Adrian clawed its way to within five points with under four minutes left. A layup from Poling and an and-1 from Stevens brought back the momentum as well as a 10-point cushion.
Jordan Harris led the Bulldogs with 17 points on 17 attempts. Kendall Bellamy had 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Alma hosts Trine University (IN) at Art Smith Arena on Wednesday (Feb. 5) at 7:30 p.m.
