Alma, Mich. - Ryan Stevens of the Alma College men's basketball team has spent a portion of his summer playing in Brazil for USA Sports Tours & Events.
"I think this is a once in a lifetime experience that I can thank basketball for providing," said Stevens. "I have had the privilege of playing with some of the top guys around the nation for Division III and getting to pick their brains about the game has been exciting. We have played against some great teams here in Brazil and it allows us to see another style of basketball."
Stevens and 18 other NCAA Division III basketball players were invited to take part in the organization's trip to Brazil on July 16 where they played against three teams in Jundiai, Sao Paulo, and Rio de Janeiro and immersed themselves in the local culture and customs.
"This is an outstanding group of basketball players that come from 12 different states and 14 different colleges and universities from across the United States," said Ron Smith, Director of USA Sports Tours and Events. "We feel that we have some of the best of the best representing almost every region in the country. These players have been high achievers both on the court and in the classroom. They represent everything good that the NCAA Division III institutions have to offer."
The group has spent its downtime exploring the cities, schools and local sports clubs and taking in the sights and attractions.
"This trip has allowed me to experience another culture and I have been fortunate enough to see some beautiful sites along the way. I can't thank Ron Smith and USA Basketball enough for the opportunity."
