Elmhurst, Ill. - The Alma College men's basketball team suffered a 95-72 setback to Elmhurst College on Sunday (Nov 26) at R.A. Faganel Hall.
Junior Kevin Gamble (Mt. Pleasant, Mich./Sacred Heart) paced the Scots (0-3 overall) with 15 points, while sophomore Preston Laketa (Concord, Mich./Hanover-Horton) scored 12 points. Junior Doug Bradfield (Mason, Mich./Mason) was also in double-figures, scoring 11 points, and led the team with six rebounds.
Elmhurst (2-1) was led by Jake Rhode's 21 points, while Derek Dotlich came off the bench to score 20 points. Jeremy Ireland grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds.
Both teams shot well in the contest, with the Scots hitting on nearly half of their shots (27-55), while Elmhurst shot 46.7 percent from the floor. Alma, however, committed 18 turnovers while the BlueJays out rebounded the Scots by a 43-30 margin, including 17-6 on the offensive glass.
How It Happened
- The Scots and BlueJays kept within three points of each other for most of the early part of the game.
- Elmhurst took the lead for good with 13:26 to play in the first half and built a 16-point advantage at the half, leading by a 46-30 margin.
- In the second half, Elmhurst built up a 20-point lead early in the frame and held the advantage for the majority of the remainder of the game.
Alma will travel to Ada, Ohio, on Wednesday, Nov. 29, to face Ohio Northern University in the final game of the Scots' season-opening four-game road trip. The game is set to tip off at 8 p.m.
