Alma, Mich. - The Alma College men's basketball team raised over $2,200 for the American Red Cross' disaster relief fun on Monday (Oct. 30) night as the Scots took on Northwood University in an exhibition at Art Smith Arena.
Northwood, a member of NCAA Division II and the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, won the contest, 92-63.
The game was scheduled as a charity event thanks to an exception from the NCAA, which allowed all college basketball teams to add an extra exhibition game to their schedule on the condition that all proceeds from the event go towards disaster relief.
Sophomore Preston Laketa (Concord, Mich./Hanover-Horton) led Alma in scoring, coming off the bench to net 19 points. Laketa was 7-for-9 from the field and hit five of his seven three-pointers.
Alma will travel to Marquette, Mich., on Saturday, Nov. 4, to face Northern Michigan University in an exhibition contest for both schools. The Scots will officially open the 2017-18 season on Friday, Nov. 17, at Illinois Wesleyan University.
