Alma, Mich. - The Alma College men's basketball team has been recognized by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) for its academic success in 2016-17 as the Scots were awarded the 2016-17 NABC Team Academic Excellence Award today (Wednesday, July 12).
Alma College has received the honor for the past five seasons, and every year since the NABC established the award for the 2012-13 campaign.
To earn the honor, teams in NCAA Divisions I, II and III, as well as NAIA Division I and II, must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better and must count the GPAs of all student-athletes that competed during the season.
Alma College finished the 2016-17 campaign with a record of 12-14, including an 8-6 mark in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play. The Scots qualified for the MIAA Tournament for the third consecutive season and finished the year as one of the best three-point shooting teams in NCAA Division III.
