Alma, Mich. - On Tuesday the Alma College Esports team competed in a Valorant exhibition doubleheader match against Springfield college. The Scots came away victorious in each match by scores of 13-3 and 13-11.
Jason Melnik, Nick Fowler, Jade Harbert, Ethan Honoway, and Duncan Tyree competed in game one on the map "Bind" for the Scots. Alma started the match on offense and were able to take the first six rounds to earn a commanding lead. During this time Honoway and Melnik both contributed a round with Quad Eliminations setting up the Scots for their success. Alma went into the half up 9-3.
In the second half the Scots switched to defense and won every round the rest of the way. Harbert and Fowler were able to work in tandem to hold down one half of the map while Tyree held down the middle. Melink was able to lead the team with the top elimination score.
Melnik, Tre Bubala, Riley Ohryn, Sandro Suffredini, and Benjamin Briegel competed in game two on the map "Ascent" for the Scots. Alma started off the match on offense struggling to find their rhythm. At halftime the score was 7-5 in favor of Springfield.
In the second half the Scots switched to defense and were able to bounce back. Bubala had a stand out performance recording 28 eliminations over the course of the game. The Scots rallied from behind and were able to win, 13-11. Melnik once again topped the charts for the Scots with most eliminations.
After going 2-0 on the day, the Scots now look ahead to their regular season. The season will begin shortly as brackets are still being finalized.
