Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Alma College cheer and STUNT team began the 2019 season with two wins at the Davenport University STUNT Games on Sunday (Jan. 27) afternoon, but fell to the host Panthers in its final game of the day.
The Scots defeated both Ferris State University and Oakland University 21-0 before falling to Davenport University 16-11.
Alma led the Panthers 11-10 after the first round of the fourth quarter, but fell in each routine of the final two rounds.
How It Happened
- Against Davenport, Alma dropped the first round to the Panthers in partner stunts routine seven. The Scots came back to tie the second round and earn the win in partner stunts routines six and three.
- With a 3-2 lead entering the second quarter, the Panthers again won the opening round with routine seven, and again, Alma tied the second round and won the final two, getting the points in routines two and four. The Scots led 6-4 after two quarters.
- Davenport took the third quarter 4-2 to tie the game at 10. The Panthers won two rounds with jump & tumble routines seven and four, while Alma tied in routines six and two.
- The Scots began the fourth and final quarter well, earning points across the board. But Davenport hung around with points in the partner stunt, and jump & tumble routines. The Panthers would go on to sweep the final two rounds in routines six and seven.
Alma will travel to Michigan State on Sunday (Feb. 10) where it will take on the University of Michigan and the host Spartans.
