Alma, Mich. - Senior Zach Schirmer (Bay City, Mich. / Bay City Western) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association position player of the week as announced by the league office Monday (Mar. 9). This is the second week in a row an Alma Scot has won the award.
The right fielder batted .500 with two triples, two doubles, and a walk over the weekend against Wilmington College (OH). Schirmer drove in six RBIs as well as scored himself seven times.
On the year, Schirmer is batting .390 and has 19 RBIs through 14 games. He is also tied for eighth in the nation in triples with three. He also was a big part of the Scots success at the RussMatt tournament in Florida as he had two home runs and 10 RBIs in eight games.
Alma (8-6 overall) will have its first home games of the year on Saturday (Mar. 28) as they host Trine University (IN) for a doubleheader to open up conference play.
