Alma, Mich. - Senior pitcher Phil Jock (Memphis, Mich./Memphis) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced today (Monday, March 21).
For Jock, the award marks the first time in his career that he has received the honor. It comes after he pitched a complete game in a 7-2 win at Muskingum University (Ohio) on Friday (March 18). Jock faced 29 batters, striking out five and walking three. Both of the runs scored by the Muskies were unearned.
Jock is 2-1 this season in three appearances with a 1.00 earned-run average and is averaging 9.0 strikeouts per game. He has thrown two complete games this year.
Alma College (7-2 overall) will play at Klenk Park for the first time this season on Tuesday, March 22, when it hosts Cleary University (Mich.) for a non-conference double header. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
