Kleiver Scores 36 and Scots Beat No. 24 Albion

Cole Kleiver (Williamston, Mich. / Williamston) poured in a career-high 36 points on 12-of-21 shooting and 7-of-13 from three in a loss to Trine before the Scots took down No. 24 Albion 78-74 on Saturday (Feb. 8) afternoon. Kyle Woodruff (Grand Blanc, Mich. / Holly) tied a season-high with 22 points off the bench on 7-of-12 from the field and 6-of-7 from the line. Ryan Stevens (Lowell, Mich. / Lowell) had 14 points, three assists and two rebounds and made all six of his free throws. Kleiver posted 10 points, seven assists and six rebounds. Brandon Rake (Whitehall, Mich. / Whitehall) went for 10 points and nine boards.

Scots Take Down Saint Mary's, 59-50

The women's basketball team defeated Saint Mary's College (IN) 59-50 on Saturday (Feb 8) afternoon. Stasha Warchock (Marquette, Mich. / Marquette) led all players with 21 points along with five made three-pointers. She had 11 points in the third quarter alone. Jeny Brandt (Escanaba, Mich. / Escanaba) cleaned up with 12 points and 13 rebounds, her fifth double-double of the year, along with two blocks. Hannah Thelen (Pewamo, Mich. / Pewamo-Westphalia) had seven points, six rebounds, two assists and three steals.

Wrestling Dominates Spartans in Final Dual of the Year

The wrestling team handled Manchester 34-18 on Friday (Feb. 7) night. Austin Wieczorek (Kentwood, Mich. / East Kentwood), Trent Lashuay (Saint Johns, Mich. / Saint Johns), Carter Hankins (Hartland, Mich. / Hartland), Zachary Cooper (Chippewa Hills, Mich. / Whitehall), Matt Tomsett (Madison Heights, Mich. / Lamphere), Jayce Kuehnlein (St. Louis, Mich. / St. Louis), and Lucas Brewer (Belleville, Mich. / Huron) all earned wins.

Women's Bowling Wins Inaugural Scotty Open

Bowling won the inaugural Scotty Open over 18 other teams. Emma Davis (Horton, Mich / Hanover Horton) finished in eighth with an average of 199 over five games. Josee Hale (Defiance, Ohio / Defiance Senior High) finished in 16th with a game average of 191.25 points per game and a total of 765.

Swimming and Diving Ends Dual Season against Kalamazoo

Swimming and diving lost to Kalamazoo College 242-169. Senior Sydney Louis-Ferdinand (Southfield, Mich. / Birmingham Groves) earned a victory in her final home meet, taking the women's 500-yard free event with a time of 5:48.11. Seniors Cole Malhoit (Canton, Mich. / Canton) and Nathan Wilburn (Pinckney, Mich. / Pinckney Community) finished third and fourth in the 100-yard fly event in their final home meet as Scots. Sophomore Emily Kayden (Midland, Mich. / Bay City Western) placed fourth in the 100 fly with a time of 1:09.72. She also finished the 100-yard backstroke in 1:15.95.

 

Men's Lacrosse Beats UM-Dearborn

Alma defeated the University of Michigan – Dearborn on Saturday (Feb. 8) 13-6. Connor Alley (Powell, Ohio / Worthington Kilbourne) led all players with four goals. Trevor Bailey (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. / Sault Area) had three goals and three assists and both Chase Hunyadi (Pepper Pike, Ohio / University School) and Tom Needham (Saline, Mich. / Saline) had two goals and two assists.

STUNT Shuts Down Hiram, Tiffin in Dominating Fashion

The STUNT team dominated Hiram College (OH) and Tiffin University (OH) on Sunday (Feb. 9), taking down the Terriers 20-0 and the Dragons 19-0. The Scots had no trouble in any of the first four routines, earning points in all 33 rounds of those routines. Alma also got three points in routine five, all of which came against the Dragons.

Huff Launches Two Home Runs as Baseball Takes One

Baseball went 1-2 in its season-opening series against Louisiana College over the weekend.
