Football Storms Past Rockford
The football team thoroughly dominated Rockford on Homecoming Saturday (Sept. 21). Alma had 261 rushing yards, 108 of which came from Austin Spratling (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Wyoming Kelloggsville) who added a touchdown. The Scots scored found the end zone on all six of their first-half possessions, two of which were one play long. Chase Hinkle (Concord, Mich. / Concord) had a highlight-reel grab in the first quarter, one-handing a deep pass from Ryan Stevens (Lowell, Mich. / Lowell) for Alma's second score.
Women's Soccer Beats Concordia-Chicago
The Scots took down Concordia University of Chicago 2-1 on Saturday (Sept. 21). Meghan Pfile (South Lyon, Mich. / South Lyon) and Paige Moore (St. Johns, Mich. / St. Johns High School) each scored for the Scots with assists coming from Ashley Oldham (Gilbert, Ariz. / Chandler Basha) and Lily Stephan (DeWitt, Mich. / DeWitt High School). Nicole Tuzinowski (Dexter, Mich. / Dexter) made her second start of the year and tallied five saves in net.
Cross Country Finishes Tenth at Knight Raider Invitational
On a hot and humid Friday (Sept. 20), seniors Aubrey Hemstreet (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Portage Central High School) and Luke Reed (Benzonia, Mich. / Benzie Central) paced the cross country team to a tenth place finish at Knight Raider-Invitational. Hemstreet finished 12th overall with a time of 19:47.90 and Reed posted a time of 27:28.10, finishing 22nd.
Men's Soccer Falls in OT
The men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 defeat in overtime to Defiance College (OH) on Wednesday (Sept. 18). The game was a neck-and-neck scoreless tie for nearly 80 minutes until the Yellow Jackets broke through. Danten McFate (Haslett, Mich. / Haslett) answered less than two minutes later off a corner kick from Brandon McDaniel (Midland, Mich. / Herbert Henry Dow) to send the game to extra time. It wasn't long before a Defiance shot slipped past Jose Vicario (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Kelloggsville High School) for the game-winning goal.
Men's Golf Placed Seventh at Second MIAA Jamboree
The Scots hosted the second MIAA Jamboree on Saturday (Sept. 21) at the Pine River Country Club. The Scots finished in seventh place as a team overall with a combined score of 324, one stroke behind Kalamazoo. Alma was led by freshman Andrew Curran (Byron Center, Mich. Jenison) with a score of 78 (+6). Behind him was senior Tait Morrissey (Big Rapids, Mich. / Big Rapids) with a 79 (+7). The Scots remain in seventh place through two of four conference tournaments.
