STUNT Falls to Davenport in Third-Straight Title Game
The Alma College STUNT team finished as the runner-up in the College STUNT Association Division II Championship for the third straight season on Sunday (May 5), falling to Davenport 17-7 in the title game. Alma earned a shot at the four-time defending champions after defeating Oklahoma Baptist University for the second time in as many days, taking down the Bison 14-13 in the semifinals. The Scots finish the year with a 14-4 record with all four losses coming against Davenport.
Men's Lacrosse Falls By One In MIAA Semifinals
The Scots fell to the Albion Britons 11-10 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association semifinals on Wednesday (May 1) at the Brits' Alumni Field. Junior midfielder Trevor Bailey (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. / Sault Area) tied a career-high with five goals while adding an assist after missing the last five games. Freshman attacker Timothy Gearig (Vicksburg, Mich. / Vicksburg) and junior midfielder Chase Hunyadi (Pepper Pike, Ohio / University School) were the other two Scots with a multi-goal game. Alma's season ends with an 8-10 record while Albion improves to 8-8 on the year and advances to MIAA Championship game.
Baseball Reaches Playoffs with Win on Senior Day
The baseball team earned the four seed in the MIAA postseason with a win in game two of a doubleheader against Calvin College on Saturday (May 4). The Scots finished the regular season with the best winning percentage at home of the last decade. Juniors Pete Carravallah (Canton, Mich. / Plymouth) and Max Trucks (Mt. Pleasant, Mich. / Mt. Pleasant) each had four hits on the day with Trucks going 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBI in game two. Sophomore Carson Kempa (North Branch, Mich. / North Branch) earned his third win of the season on the mound for Alma. Alma will face the top-seeded Adrian Bulldogs in the first round of the playoffs.
Track and Field Competes in the MIAA Outdoor Championships
The Alma College track and field team competed in Day 2 of the MIAA Outdoor Championships on Friday (May 3). Both the men's and women's teams finished in seventh place. Senior Erin Goggins (Hastings, Mich. / Hastings) placed second in the pole vault, the Scots' highest finisher in any event, with a leap of 3.15 meters. Sophomore Charley Hengesbach (Saginaw, Mich. / Nouvel Catholic Central) finished third shot put 12.13 meters, tying her personal best set on Thursday in the preliminaries. Junior Aubrey Hemstreet (Portage, Mich. / Portage Central) finished the 10000 meter run at 39:33.02 second in the prelims, taking nearly two full seconds off her previous best time. Sophomores Stephanie Davis (Elmira, Mich. / Gaylord) and Audrey Padilla (Manistee, Mich. / Manistee) also set new personal records in the 400-meter hurdles and the 400-meter dash, respectively.
