Men's Basketball Competes in 36 Annual Lopata Classic

The men's basketball team fell to Wisconsin-Platteville and No. 25 Pomona-Pitzer in St. Louis, Mo. over the weekend. Junior Kyle Woodruff (Grand Blanc, Mich. / Holly) was named to the All-Tournament team after leading the Scots and averaging 16 points and 5.5 assists over two games. Juniors Ryan Stevens (Lowell, Mich. / Lowell) and Steven Harvey (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Eastern) had solid statistical outings, each posting new season-highs in points, assists and rebounds.

Women's Basketball Wins One on the Road, Falls in Conference Opener

The Scots earned their fourth-straight victory Tuesday (Nov. 27) when they defeated Anderson University in Indiana by a score of 65-53. Sophomore forward Jessie Jordan (Mason, Mich. / Williamston) scored a career-high 29 points and broke the program record for threes in a single game with eight. Alma's longest win streak since 2006 came to an end Saturday (Dec. 1) when they lost to No. 12 Trine University (IN), 77-46, to kick off MIAA play. Senior forward Madeline Barnauskas (Livonia, Mich. / Dearborn Divine Child) scored a team-high 10 points and sophomore forward Charley Hengesbach (Saginaw, Mich. / Nouvel Catholic Central) grabbed a game-high seven rebounds.

Scots Battle in Ohio Northern Invitational

The Alma College wrestling team traveled to Ada, Ohio Saturday (Dec. 1) and finished 12th at the Polar Bears tournament. Sophomores Austin Wieczorek (Kentwood, Mich. / East Kentwood) and Joe Vondrasek (Owosso, Mich. / Owosso) both earned sixth place in their weight classes. Vondrasek and freshman Dillon Stevenson (Mesa, Ariz. / Desert Ridge) each won three times on the day.

Women's Swim and Dive Take Seventh, Men Eighth at Carthage Classic

The Alma College swim and dive teams competed in the A3 Carthage Classic last week, with the women's team taking seventh place of ten teams and the men finishing eighth. Many Scots qualified to compete in the finals events, eight of which finished among the top ten of all swimmers in their races. Freshman Sarah Gaines (Colorado Springs, Colo. / Liberty) had the best finish for the Scots when she took fifth place in the 100-meter individual medley finals. Senior Eric Ferrara (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson) swam in the 200-meter freestyle finals and took sixth place, finishing the race in 1:48.12 and improving his previous personal record for that event in the process.
