Football Battles with Olivet but Falls in Final Minutes

The football team dropped a tough decision at Olivet on Saturday (Nov. 3). Alma erased an 11-point deficit in the second half to take a 34-30 lead with 3:30 left, but left enough time for the Comets to score the eventual game-winning touchdown. The Scots would turn it over in Olivet territory on its next possession with 23 seconds remaining. Junior quarterback Mason Ippel (Jenison, Mich. / Jenison) threw for 223 yards and a career-high three touchdowns. Junior wide receiver Chase Hinkle (Concord, Mich. / Concord) caught a personal-best eight passes for 108 yards and a score.

Volleyball Reaches Semis, Three Named All-Conference

The Scots advanced to the MIAA semifinals with a 3-1 victory over Adrian College on Tuesday (Oct. 30). Alma's season then came to an end Friday (Nov. 2) after falling to No. 14 Hope College. It was the first time since 2010 the Scots went that deep into the postseason. With a final 19-8 overall record, Alma had its most winningest season in a decade. Freshman outside hitter Sara Majerle (Rockford, Mich. / Rockford) and sophomore setter Haley Novak (Midland, Mich. / Bullock Creek) were named First-Team All-Conference while senior middle blocker Katie Bush took home Second-Team All-Conference honors.

Newcomers Lead Wrestling in Opening Week

Alma started off its season Thursday (Nov. 1) with a 21-16 road dual win at Davenport University. Playing in their first match as a Scot, freshmen Jayce Kuehnlein (St. Louis, Mich. / St. Louis) and Jacob Ransom (Traverse City, Mich. / Traverse City West), as well as junior Zachary Cooper (Chippewa Hills, Mich. / Whitehall) all came out with victories. Cooper and Kuehnlein kept up their strong starts by winning their respective weight class brackets in the Ben McMullen Open at Muskegon Community College Saturday (Nov. 3). Sophomore Joe Vondrasek (Owosso, Mich. / Owosso) took second place in his class while freshman Dylan Seaton (Port, Huron, Mich. / Port Huron Northern) earned third place.

Bowling Places Third at AC Open

The Alma College bowling team finished in third place at the AC Open, hosted by Adrian College, on Saturday (Nov. 3). The Scots were led by freshman Kemmie Shunk, who had a season-best 180.50 average over four games. Alma bowled a huge third game, scoring a 920 - second in the tournament to only Judson's 945. Shunk and Brooke Fornetti (Iron Mountain, Mich. / Iron Mountain) each scored over 200 in the game.
