Volleyball Moves to 11-2 after Winning Home Opener
The volleyball team defeated Kalamazoo in its home opener and fell to No. 13 Hope earlier in the week. The Scots are now 11-2 overall and 11-0 against non-nationally ranked opponents. Freshman Sara Majerle (Rockford, Mich. / Rockford) and senior Katie Bush (Lowell, Mich. / Lowell) led the team in kills with 24 and 19, respectively. Majerle is fifth in the MIAA in kills per set with 3.06. Bush is first in the conference in total blocks with 44.
Women's Golf Stays in Fifth, but Close to Third
The women's golf team is in fifth place in the MIAA standings after the second MIAA Jamboree over the weekend. The Scots have 718 strokes, just four strokes behind Calvin for third place and two behind Olivet for fourth place. Senior Tori Basso (Lake Orion, Mich. / Lake Orion) led Alma with an 82, tied for second place at the Knollwood Country Club in Granger, Ind.
Men's Soccer Earns Hard-Fought Win
Junior Kyle Farmer (Greenville, Mich. / Greenville) scored two goals, including the game-winner in the final minutes, for the men's soccer team at Aquinas last Tuesday. Junior Noah Canlas (Naperville, Ill. / Naperville Central) also scored, while Senior goalkeeper Andrew Reid (Clarkston, Mich. / Clarkston) made six saves in his first career win.
Cross Country Teams Finished Eighth at the Raider Invitational
Both the men's and women's cross country teams finished in eighth place at the Raider Invitational on Saturday. Junior Luke Reed (Benzonia, Mich. / Benzie Central) earned the best time for the men's team (25:38.3), while senior Mallory Munderloh (St. Louis, Mich. / St. Louis) led the women side, finishing her race in 19:29.7.
Women's Soccer Loses Two Tough Games, One in the Final Minute
The women's soccer team dropped two games, including one in the final minute, last week. Freshman defender Ashley Oldham (Gilbert, Ariz. / Chandler Basha) scored her first-career goal against Franklin on Saturday. Sophomore goalkeeper Ally Wentworth (Mt. Pleasant, Mich. / Mt. Pleasant) made a career-high 13 saves against Adrian on Wednesday, eight more than her previous career-high.
Pinter Leads Men's Golf for Another Week
Freshman Eli Pinter (Muskegon, Mich. / Reeths-Puffer) shot a career-low 73 at the second MIAA Jamboree at the Zollner Golf Course in Angola, Ind. Sophomore Tait Morrissey (Canadian Lakes, Mich. / Big Rapids) shot a 79, two strokes off his season-low. Seniors Bennett Schmitt (Frankfort, Mich. / Frankfort) and Kyle Bodkins (Ada, Mich. / Forest Hills Central) came in with an 81 and 86. The Scots are seventh in the conference after two league tournaments.
