Alma, Mich. - Brad Smith has been promoted to Alma College's Head Athletic Trainer as announced by Director of Athletics Steven Rackley on Thursday (July 19).
"I wholeheartedly appreciate President Abernathy, Steven Rackley, and the whole athletics staff for the opportunity that they've given me," said Smith. "I am beyond excited to continue at Alma College in this new role, as I have truly enjoyed being a Scot over the past year. I cannot be more proud to have the fortune of serving our student-athletes and I plan to continue the outstanding care that the previous head athletic trainer had given them."
Since joining the Scots in August of 2017, he has worked with the women's basketball, cross country, men's lacrosse, track and field, and volleyball programs. Prior to that, he was an assistant athletic trainer at Berea College for three years, working with the baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field, and volleyball teams. He also served as the Mountaineers' interim Head Athletic Trainer during the spring of 2015.
The duties Smith carried out in his four years as an assistant athletic trainer include serving as a clinical supervisor for students at Alma College and Eastern Kentucky University, establishing a strong rapport with student-athletes through regular evaluations, and researching new and innovative exercises to help his athletes progress.
Smith is a graduate of Adrian University where he attained a Bachelor of Arts in exercise science in 2013 and a Master of Science in athletic training in 2014.
