Football falls at Adrian to close out season

The football team suffered a 56-21 loss to Adrian College on Saturday (Nov. 11) as the Scots closed out the 2017 season at Adrian's Docking Stadium. Senior quarterback Dylan Zaborowski (Jackson, Mich./Michigan Center) tossed a pair of touchdown passes and ran for another score as the Scots (4-6 overall, 1-5 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association) played from behind for most of the game. Seniors Jacob Shields (Rives Junction, Mich./Jackson Northwest) and Jacob McKiddie (Redford, Mich./Redford Union) both caught touchdowns, with McKiddie's catch being the first score of his career in his final collegiate game. Alma was limited to a season-low 86 yards rushing as the Adrian defense held the Scots to 246 yards of total offense, the fewest yards this season. Defensively, freshman John Martinez (Alvin, Texas/Alvin) led the Scots with eight tackles.

Cross Country teams continue improvement at NCAA III Regional

The cross country team made the 280-mile trip to the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional meet on Saturday (Nov. 11), hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University. Senior Hannah Garn (Charlotte, Mich. The Hornets won the men's and women's events and captured the meet by a combined score of 387-135. The event was a homecoming of sorts for Head Coach Jason Lintjer, who came to Alma after serving as an assistant coach at Kalamazoo during the 2016-17 season. Freshman Haven Westra (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) was a double-winner for the Scots, winning the women's 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke events. Sophomore Sydney Louis Ferdinand (Southfield, Mich./Birmingham Groves) and sophomore Cole Malhoit (Canton, Mich./Canton) were also first-place finishers as the Scots swept the 1000 freestyle races.

Ladd went 4-1 in his bracket, scoring a technical fall over Trine's Nevan Freestone in his first match, then posting a 6-4 decision against Olivet College's Andre Bourlier in the quarterfinal round. In the semifinals, Ladd suffered a 9-7 defeat to North Central College's Anthony Rink, but responded with a major decision victory in the consolation semifinals, defeating University of Chicago's Gage Bayless, 16-5. In the third-place match, Ladd blanked Balwin Wallace's Tanner Mchugh, 4-0.
