Winter Sports Varsity Club Coaches Luncheon set for Thursday

The winter sports Varsity Club Coaches Luncheon will take place at 12 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9, in the Carra Jones Smith Lobby of the Hogan Center on the campus of Alma College. Head coaches of the Scots' winter teams - Matt Chovanec (Indoor Track & Field), Sam Hargraves (Men's Basketball), Kris Johnson (Women's Basketball), Jason Lintjer (Swimming & Diving), Michelle Sabourin (Cheer & STUNT), Kyle Woodcock (Women's Bowling) and Jeremiah Tobias (Wrestling) - will speak, while Topher Goggin, the voice of Alma College sports on, will host the event. The free luncheon will last for one hour and is open to Alma College community as well as the general public. 

Three soccer players earn All-MIAA honors

Senior Amanda Mladenovski (Shelby Township, Mich./Henry Ford II) was named to the All-MIAA Women's Soccer First Team after leading the women's soccer program with nine goals and 20 points during the 2017 season, while freshman Makenzie Rajewski (Midland, Mich./Midland) received All-MIAA Second Team accolades. In men's soccer, senior Sam Falardeau (Mason, Mich./Mason) earned All-MIAA Second Team recognition for the second straight year. 

Football falls to No. 25 Trine on Senior Day

The football team dropped a 41-6 decision to No. 25 Trine University in a rain-soaked affair on Saturday (Nov. 4) at Bahlke Field. The Thunder scored 35 unanswered points in the second half to secure a share of its first MIAA championship. The weather played a significant factor in the first half, as the Scots and Thunder played through the rain to a 6-6 tie at the break. In the second half, the weather cleared up and Trine took charge, scoring three times in a five-minute span to pull away. Senior Dylan Zaborowski (Jackson, Mich./Michigan Center) scored Alma's only touchdown and ran the ball 24 times for a team-high 84 yards. He also completed 11 of 26 passes for 128 yards. Senior Zac Peterson (Holt, Mich./Holt) led Alma with 7 tackles while freshman John Martinez (Alvin, Texas/Alvin) tallied a game-high three tackles for loss. The Scots, playing their final home game of the season, honored 21 seniors prior to the contest.

McPhail wins weight class at McMullen Open

The wrestling team opened the 2017-18 campaign on Saturday (Nov. 4), participating in the Ben McMullen Open at Muskegon Community College. Senior Taylor McPhail (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores) was the top finisher for the Scots, winning the 197-pound bracket. Sophomore Brendan Ladd (Ortonville, Mich./Brandon) was also a finalist, falling in the championship round of the 141-pound flight. No team scores were kept at the event.
