Women's Golf Finishes Fourth in MIAA, Will Play in NCAA Qualifier

The Alma College women's golf team finished fourth at the end of the two-day MIAA Fall Finale, scoring a 327 and setting a new school record. The Scots' top-four finish secures them a spot in the NCAA Qualifier next spring, a feat unachieved by an Alma women's golf team since 2003. Leading the Scots was junior Kennedy Hilley (Lake Odessa, Mich./Lakewood), who scored an 80 (+10) on Saturday, tying for ninth place and earning her a spot on the All-MIAA Second Team along with junior Tori Basso (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion).

Softball Team Named to NFCA All-Academic List

The softball team has landed on the 2016-17 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III All-Academic List. The Scots are 57th on the list with a 3.426 GPA. They are one of five MIAA teams to the earn the distinction and the second highest on the list.

Football Grounded at Hope

The Alma College football team suffered a 36-14 setback at Hope College on Saturday (Oct. 7) as the Scots fell in MIAA play for the first time this season. Senior Dylan Zaborowski (Jackson, Mich./Michigan Center) threw his 50th career touchdown pass in the game and ran for 115 yards and a touchdown. The Alma defense forced four turnovers, but the Scots were held to just 62 yards passing.

Men's Soccer Picks Up Its First Win

Sophomore Tanner Parrett (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores) scored his first career goal for the Alma College men's soccer team in their first win of the year, a 1-0 victory over Albion on Saturday (Oct. 8). His goal was unassisted in the 77th minute. Sophomore Garrison Mast (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven) made five saves in the contest, adding to his conference lead of 64 saves. Also among the conference leaders is sophomore Noah Canlas (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) who is in third place in shots with 34. He led the team with seven this past week.

Cross Country Makes Strides in Lansing

Alma College cross country traveled to the Lansing Invitational on Friday (Oct. 6). Seniors Chelse Van Spronsen (Jenison, Mich./Jenison), Hannah Garn (Charlotte, Mich./Charlotte), Zane Berlanga (Canton, Mich./Plymouth) and junior Mallory Munderloh (St. Louis, Mich./St. Louis) all finished in the top ten of their respective races. Sophomore Jack Montgomery (Mikado, Mich./Oscoda Area) took 38 seconds off his personal best from the Calvin Knight Invitational on Sept. 9.

Volleyball Drops Three Road Games

Senior Dakota Pelach (Gaylord, Mich./Gaylord) tallied her first triple-double of the season in a loss to Adrian on Tuesday (Oct. 3), one of three losses on the week for the Alma College volleyball team. She had 11 kills, 19 digs and 19 assists in the loss and had a team-high 30 kills and 49 assists for the week. Pelach's triple-double was her first since Oct. 12, 2016, against Albion and the 11th of her career. She is one of two players in the MIAA to have a triple-double this season. Sophomore Georgia Miller (Georgetown, Ky./Scott Country), who is eighth in digs in the conference, led the team with 47 this past week.

Home Win Streak Snapped for Women's Soccer

The Alma College women's soccer team fell in both of its matches last week, as the Scots dropped a 3-0 decision at Adrian College on Wednesday (Oct. 4) before falling by a 2-1 margin to Olivet College on Saturday (Oct. 7) at Scotland Yard. Senior Amanda Mladenovski (Shelby Township, Mich./Henry Ford II) scored the goal for Alma and leads the team with a career-high five tallies this season.

Men's Golf Eighth at MIAA Jamboree Four

The Alma College men's golf team participated in the final MIAA Jamboree on Monday (Oct. 2), ending the day with a score of 349 (+65) and coming in eighth place. Two Scots set season-low scores at the event, with freshman Tait Morrissey (Canadian Lakes, Mich./Big Rapids) shooting a 79 (+8) and tying for 15th, and junior Kyle Bodkins (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Central) tying for 20th with his score of 81 (+10).
